Open Play & Paddle Rack Guide
Open play is one of the best parts of pickleball. It is social, flexible, and open to all skill levels. To keep sessions fair, efficient, and enjoyable for everyone, Racquet Vault follows a simple system used across most clubs: the paddle rack.
The paddle rack is a first-come, first-served rotation system. When you arrive and are ready to play, place your paddle in the rack. When a court opens, the next four paddles move on. After your game, rerack at the back of the line if you would like to play again.
How It Works
- Rack your own paddle when you are ready to play
- Your paddle position determines when you play and who you play with
- Stay nearby when you are close to the front
- Step on promptly when a court opens
- Exit the court quickly when your game ends
- Rerack at the back if you want another game

Open Play Etiquette
No saving spots. Do not rack paddles for players who are not present.
Play the rotation. Open play means playing with whoever is next in line.
No preset foursomes. Use reserved courts or challenge courts for private group play.
Clear the court promptly. Continue conversations and coaching off court.
